Plucked naked from the North Sea, bruised and nearly drowned, Niall Sinclair wakes bound to the mast of the pirate ship, The Black Thistle. Hiding his identity, and brutalized by the first mate and other seamen, their captain comes to his aid. Her identity, and gender, are a surprise, and his physical reaction to her makes him nearly forget his need to escape, and return to his clan.
When kidnapped from her shipbuilding business in modern day Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the last place Blair MacIan figured to end up, was at the helm of a pirate ship in 1603 Scotland. With her abusive husband dead, and the ship, the crew, and their people under her care, the last thing she needed was to fish a naked man from the sea. His ravaged face and ragged sandy hair could not detract from his magnificence, and she sensed in him, a means for her own escape.

“We will search high and low, love. Eat. Ye will need yer strength.” Once Blair did as she was told, Niall broke off a hunk of crusty bannock, and dunked it in the meat drippings. The aroma of onions and boiled carrots made his mouth water. After swallowing, he passed Blair a tankard of warm mulled cider. “Drink, love. ‘Twill warm ye.”
“All I need to make me warm, is you,” she whispered, as her eyes roamed down his chest to his lap.
His brother laughed, and added, “I heard yer woman’s comment.”
Niall felt his ears redden.
Gavin turned back to Blair at the same time a serving wench placed a tankard of ale on the scarred wooden table in front of him. He swallowed several gulps, then grew serious. “I heard the tale of how my brother appeared in town, then muscled his way into the castle’s bailey, but how did ye get here?”
“A long story, but I followed Cinnie,” Blair said, then sipped her cider.
The sudden silence in the great hall startled Niall. “Did the lass say something amusing?”
Mackenzie, sitting in the Chieftain’s chair, coughed. “Cinnie has claimed dealings with Angus Sinclair. She stabbed a friend. We captured her, but she escaped from my dungeon.”
Blair set her tankard down. “She acted a bit haughty, but when I said I was searching for my child, she led me here.”
“Where did ye find her?” Niall asked.
“In the orchard. She was gathering apples. I ate one.”
Mackenzie jumped to his feet, and several others cried out. “She poisoned Dorcas Swann with tainted apples!”
“What?” Blair placed her hand on her stomach, and gazed at Niall. Terror filled her face.
Niall jumped to his feet, glaring at the Mackenzie laird. “Would she poison a perfect stranger? She has never met Blair. No one here has.”
“She didn’t give me the apple. She dropped her basket, and I helped her gather them up. I kept one.” Blair’s face looked pinched, and pale. “I don’t feel so good.”
“I want to bring ye pleasure, to show ye what a man can do with his mouth, and his tongue.”
“Only his mouth and tongue?”
The flame of a nearby oil lamp made Blair’s eyes sparkle. Did she mean to tease him with words? “I am quite capable of pleasing a woman, without impaling her with my cock.”
At the shock of Niall’s words, her mouth opened wide, giving him a chance to demonstrate what his mouth and tongue could do for her. He thrust his tongue deep inside her delicious mouth, then pulled it back, and settled on her lips. She tasted like liquid sunshine and honey, with a light bite of sea salt.
When he nipped her lips, her arms circled his waist. Her heat spread through her blouse to his naked skin, warming his heart. He kissed her cheekbones, then licked the edge of her warm lips. Hungry for more, he sank his tongue inside her mouth, and drank in her essence. Thrusting his tongue forward and back, he mimicked the thrusts of lovemaking.
She moaned, and her hands rose, loosening his hair from the sash, then tangled in his locks. She ground her body against him, pressing against his arousal. He held his breath, then succumbed to her ministrations, breathing his joy and pleasure into her mouth. When she pulled back, and gazed up at him, he picked her up, settling her on the edge of her small desk. Papers and a leather-bound ledger flew to the floor, and a squeak escaped her lips.
Grabbing a pillow from her bunk, he tossed it to the floor, at her feet. Unlashing her crude belt, he paused when her hands clamped over his.
“What are you doing?”
“I am pleasuring my captain.
MY HUNTED HIGHLANDER, by Nancy Lee Badger, is the third and final book in her “Kilted Athletes Through Time” series, and an excellent finale it is. The surprising addition of pirates is a nice touch, as Niall Sinclair finds himself imprisoned on a pirate ship, after falling off a cliff. The characters are well drawn out, you find yourself drawn into their lives, as if you were there. There is suspense, steamy sex, and heartwarming moments, and a “happily ever after” ending, in this exciting book. I will miss reading about these characters, but can’t wait to see what Nancy has coming next! -Kathleen Rothenberger http://www.kathleenrothenberger.com/
